Is this a trackhoe? What's the difference between a mini excavator, trackhoe, and backhoe?
Mini excavator and trackhoe are the same thing — a small tracked digger. "Trackhoe" is what most homeowners and tradespeople call it; "mini excavator" is the manufacturer/industry term. A backhoe is different: it's a tractor-style machine with a loader on the front and a digging arm on the back, usually larger and wheeled, less suited for residential work. Our CAT 304 E2 CR is a tracked mini excavator (trackhoe) — better for tight residential jobsites and won't tear up your driveway. The "CR" stands for Compact Radius, meaning the tail doesn't swing past the tracks — so you can work right up against fences and walls.
Do I need a license to operate a mini excavator?
No special license is required in Nevada to operate a mini excavator on private property. For commercial jobsites, OSHA requires the operator to be trained and qualified. If you have never run an excavator before, we recommend our owner-operator service so a qualified operator runs the machine on your job.
What attachments fit the CAT 304 E2 CR?
Our machine comes with a 12-inch or 24-inch bucket, a scraper blade, and an optional HD concrete jackhammer. Other attachments like grapples, augers, and rippers exist in the CAT 304 ecosystem but are not currently part of our rental inventory.
Can the mini excavator break concrete?
Yes, with the HD concrete jackhammer attachment. The standard bucket cannot break concrete. The jackhammer is specifically built for breaking driveways, pool decks, foundation slabs, retaining walls, and other hardscape.
How is the mini excavator delivered?
We trailer the machine to your jobsite within 15 miles of Las Vegas for free. Beyond 15 miles, a transparent flat fee is quoted at booking. We unload, walk the controls with you, and document the equipment condition before leaving.
What about insurance?
Two options. Provide your own Certificate of Insurance with $1M general liability and full equipment replacement value coverage, or purchase our damage waiver as part of the rental. Most contractors use their own COI. Most homeowners go with the damage waiver. Either works.
What if my jobsite is bigger than I thought and I need more days?
Call us at (702) 340-4025 and we extend the rental. Subject to availability; if the next customer needs it on the original return date, we work with you to figure it out. We do not penalize you for needing extra days; we just bill the additional rate.
